Fixed frames and picture windows
A picture window is a fixed frame window specified for its view and light rather than its ventilation. Because there is no opening sash, the entire frame area is glass — giving an unobstructed view and the maximum possible daylight. Nordvest supplies both standard fixed frames and large-format picture windows from the same product range.
Construction
Frames are manufactured from slow-grown Nordic pine — dense, stable, and factory-primed before finishing. The absence of hinges, stays, and locking hardware means fewer components and a lower long-term maintenance requirement than any opening window type.
Glazing
The fixed frame rebate accepts glazing units up to 52mm deep, accommodating high-performance triple glazed units with warm-edge spacer bars. Standard double glazing is also available. U-values as low as 0.6 W/m²K are achievable with the correct unit specification.
Corner glazing
Nordvest can supply glass-to-glass corner configurations where two fixed frames meet at a 90° corner with no vertical post obstructing the view. Available in double and triple glazing, and suited to contemporary residential and commercial projects where an open, panoramic feel is required
Shapes and sizes
Standard rectangular profiles are available in a wide range of sizes. Bespoke shapes — arched heads, raked, circular, and fully custom profiles — are manufactured to drawing. Minimum and maximum frame dimensions are available on request.
Passivhaus applications
Fixed frames are frequently specified on Passivhaus and low-energy projects where maximising thermal performance is the priority. The combination of triple glazing, warm-edge spacer, and a well-insulated timber frame contributes directly to the building's energy balance.
Finishes
Available in a full range of RAL colours (aluminium-clad variants) or factory-stained natural timber. Internal and external finishes can be specified independently.
