A lift-and-slide door operates differently from a conventional sliding door. When the handle is turned, the door leaf lifts on low-friction rollers, allowing it to slide over the fixed element. When the handle is returned to the closed position, the door drops back down onto a full perimeter compression seal achieving weathertightness and excellent thermal performance.
This makes lift-and-slide the perfect choice for external doors and the changeable UK climate. Conventional sliding doors that run on a bottom track without lifting do not compress onto their seals and perform poorly in wind driven rain.
The standard configuration is a single sliding leaf with one fixed panel. For wider openings, a four-panel configuration with two sliding central leaves and two fixed outer panels provides a large clear opening without requiring a structural post in the centre of the glazed area. The sliding panel runs on the outside of the fixed panel, covering the central joint for improved weather protection and a clean external appearance.
