What is aluminium-clad timber?
Aluminium clad (alu-clad) doors have a timber frame on the inside with a factory fitted aluminium skin on the external face. The timber provides structural integrity, natural insulation, and a warm interior aesthetic. The aluminium handles everything the weather throws at it, without ever needing to be painted.
Nordvest alu-clad doors should not be compared with aluminium frame doors. The core is solid timber; the aluminium is a protective cladding, not the structural element.
Thermal performance
Alu-clad doors are available with double or triple glazing. With triple glazing and a well-insulated door leaf, U-values suitable for Passivhaus and low-energy projects are achievable. The aluminium cladding itself has no negative effect on the thermal performance of the frame.
Lifespan and durability
Nordvest alu-clad doors are built for a 60-year life expectancy. The powder-coated aluminium is UV-stable and will not fade or peel. Stainless steel fixings and aluminium glazing beads eliminate any risk of rot at the most exposed points of the frame. The timber behind the cladding is factory finished for added protection.
